Sneakers That Should Have a Big Year in 2015
To say 2014 was another good year for sneakers is a huge understatement. Jordan Brand brought back the Air Jordan 6 to huge fanfare. The FIFA World Cup was the stage for the introduction of new football shoe technology that slowly found life off the pitch. Nike in general had another good year, but Adidas surprised many with a number of strong releases and hirings that gives the German footwear giants good momentum to challenge The Swoosh for sneaker supremacy in 2015.
Talking about the sneaker highlights and best releases of 2014 is a pretty expansive topic of conversation all on its own. And with the remaining releases of the year pretty laid out, it's time to look forward to some shoes that are looking poised to hit it big in 2015.
1. Air Jordan 7
Actually, all Air Jordan retro releases of next year should be drawing even more hype than they already do because of news of Jordan Brand's plan to "remaster" their classics line starting next year. A range of models from the Jordan archive are set to make a return, but none will be more visible than the Air Jordan 7 as it celebrates its 23rd anniversary next year.
2. Adidas Superstar
Adidas struck gold with the retro of the Stan Smith this year, but they aren't the most iconic shoes from the Adidas archive. That lofty title has to go to the Adidas Superstar, which celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2015. A special "Made In France" edition will be releasing to mark the occasion, but I'd wager that a re-release of the shoe in its original form would go great with collectors as well.
3. Nike SB
In the early to mid 2000s, Nike's SB line rode a massive wave of popularity. Releases since then haven't impressed as much, but sporadic drops of classic SB Dunk designs in different heights as well as a Jordan Brand collaboration revived interest in Nike's skateboarding line. If Nike SB continues the formula, then the brand could work its way back to the upper tier of the sneaker conversation.
4. Saucony
Once a brand that only sparked interest among serious runners, the introduction of the brand's originals line to the local market has turned the heads of people looking for a shoe they weren't looking to clock serious miles in. Silhouettes such as the Jazz and Shadow are up there with staples from brands such as New Balance, and with more to come in 2015, the pace of the lifestyle running shoe dominating the sneaker circuit doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon.
What do you think are the shoes that will blow up in 2015? Let me know in the comment section!
