Sneaker Spotlight - Adidas ZX Flux

Sneaker Spotlight is a new section of my blog that breaks down sneakers in my current rotation and what makes them worth the cop. Breaking things off is the Adidas ZX Flux.

Since its debut earlier this year, the Adidas ZX Flux has been on quite a run. Taking visual cues from the Adidas ZX running line and stripping down most of their performance add-ons, the ZX Flux offers an aggressive, streamlined look. What I have on in the pictures are the Infra-Reds from the "Base Color" Pack.

In terms of comfort and on-foot feel, don't expect to get that plush, spongy feeling offered by other shoes in the lifestyle runner market. What you do get is supportive cushioning for your feet thanks to the presence of Adidas' Torsion Bar technology placed in the soles. You won't exactly be walking on clouds, but your feet won't be killing you even after a long day on-foot either.

The uppers of mine are made from a mesh material that gets cleaned easily. And the very characteristics of the upper make them very breathable, great for those who value ventilation when it comes to shoe choices.

Overall, the Adidas ZX Flux is a great choice if you're in the market for a shoe that marries sporty heritage and casual appeal. I don't know about you, but they're definitely a lock for a spot in one of the ten best sneakers to drop this year.

The Adidas ZX Flux is available at your local Adidas stores in a number of different colors and dressed up in numerous graphics and patterns. Those of the creative persuasion can customize your own with the Adidas #MiZXFlux app!

Adidas Originals x Italia Independent ZX Flux Collection

To file under interesting co-collaborator choices, Adidas Originals have tied up with eyewear brand Italia Independent on a series of ZX Flux sneakers. Separated into two packs, the "Print" pack utilizes the original ZX Flux silhouette to showcase a loud assortment of camouflage and zebra printed uppers. On the other hand, the "NPS" pack tweaks the ZX Flux NPS model with woven uppers made of ballistic materials done up in subtle color schemes.

There's no confirmation on whether both packs will be releasing locally, but local retailer The SneakPeek has confirmed that the "Print" pack will be dropping in their stores very soon.

Adidas Originals ZX Flux Tech "Nordic" Pack

Whatever wave the Adidas ZX Flux is riding right now isn't showing any signs of crashing as this pack turned up when I was checking out sneaker stores last night. Retooling the ZX Flux silhouette with an adizero adios performance outsole, these particular ZX Flux Techs splay intricate Nordic patterns on their uppers. One weaves a mix of red, black, white, and navy for a standout look, while those who favor more subdued looks can take delight in a dominantly grey makeup that's no less compelling.

Pick up your pairs at sneaker stores such as Urban Athletics. Check out more looks after the jump.

How The Adidas #miZXFlux App Works

This weekend, the Adidas miZXFlux app will release on both iOS and Android platforms. With that, the folks behind the brand put together a nifty little video that explains how the app works, as well as limitations for every interested sneakerhead looking to put together a design. Check out the video after the jump.

Adidas Originals #miZXFLUX

Adidas Originals dropped a game-changing idea on the sneaker world a while back when the brand announced it would be developing an app for people to create custom versions of the ZX Flux sneaker. With the app scheduled to launch in August, the brand has allowed people to preview just what their custom shoes could look like. To get in on the action, just tweet a photo to Adidas Originals and tag #miZXFLUX. You could even win yours for free!

Check on the blog to for more information on the app as it comes along. And hit the jump for a video and a sample preview of a custom ZX Flux job I designed.

Adidas Originals ZX Flux "Base Tone" Pack

After a solid string of loud and printed releases, the Adidas ZX Flux comes back in a couple of simpler looks for July. The "Base Tone" Pack features the silhouette done up in both bright red and cobalt blue hues. Black accents on the midsole, tongue, and three-stripe branding ground the colors, while clean white soles finish off both colorways, effectively keeping the sleek, no-frills look the ZX Flux is known for.

The Adidas ZX Flux "Base Tone" Pack is available now at retailers such as Urban Athletics. Check out more looks after the jump.

Customize your own Adidas ZX Flux with the MiAdidas Photo Print App

Without a doubt, the Adidas ZX Flux is one of the hottest sneaker models to drop this year. Since its debut, this heritage-inspired lifestyle runner has earned a spot in the rotations of many sneakerheads for expertly straddling the line between fashion and function. So far, consumers have been exposed to both simple and neck-breaking colorways to suit a wide range of tastes. However, Adidas' latest announcement aims to not only give you a shoe that suits your personal style, but allows you to have a hand in designing it as well.

Update: ZX Flux "Photo Print" Pack

Bad news.

For anyone looking into scooping up pairs of the Adidas ZX Flux "Photo Print" Pack, I got word yesterday that it won't be making its way to local Adidas stores due to stock getting wiped out from the Singapore-based webstore. I guess people couldn't wait to get their hands on them, and I can't hate on that. That pack was pure beauty.

Available Colorways: The top 2 colorways, and the blue shoe on the 2nd column.

The good news though, the ZX Flux Base Color pack is now available at Adidas Greenbelt 3! It's the same release that Sole Academy dropped, so if you missed out last week, now's your chance!

The price is still set at P4895, so head over to Greenbelt 3 and join the Flux movement.

The Adidas ZX Flux is Coming.

Time to join the movement.

I've been blogging about the Adidas ZX Flux long enough, but now I'm stoked to relay the info that Sole Academy will be bringing them in very soon.

Adidas is going pretty hard when it comes to promoting their new ZX Flux model. And why wouldn't they when they've got a shoe that's a sleek, modern interpretation of the ZX running heritage? The Adidas ZX Flux Could Be The Breakout Sneaker of 2014.

What a year the ZX Flux is having.

If you haven't heard, the Adidas ZX Flux is essentially a modern take on the classic ZX 8000 running shoe. Gone are most of the external bells and whistles, leaving a streamlined design that's become a huge hit in the sneaker community soon after it released early this year.

It's too bad they haven't been made available locally, but I do hope that changes soon. With all the colorways that have released so far, I have yet to see a bad one. What's amazing to me is how the shoe's upper lends itself perfectly to solid colors as well as wild photo prints. When something seamlessly translates between two or more vastly different aesthetics, you know its a product of good design. And I see all these people posting shots of the pairs they have. Whatever the design of the upper, the ZX Flux just looks fast even when someone's standing still.

Old school running heads will appreciate the familiar design cues the Flux lifts from the ZX 8000 like the split sole and heel cage, while the casual sneaker fan can get behind its clean, minimalist look. It's a little early in the year, but I think it's poised to pose a really serious challenge to Nike's hold on the throne of minimalist designed running shoes. Hopefully Adidas Philippines hears this out and drops some in our stores!

But for those who can't wait to see them on local store shelves, Adidas has launched ZX Stories, a global competition inviting fans to submit their own tales and experiences with the storied ZX line for a chance to win a pair of never to be sold Purple ZX Flux pair, as well as the new ZX Flux "Weave", "Base", and "Photo Print" packs!

And just like the number of stripes Adidas has on their logo, you've got three chances of winning!

Twitter - Tweet @adidasOriginals with your ZX story in 140 characters (it could be your first pair, your best memory, go wild with it!) and tag #zxflux for a chance to win the whole ZX Flux "Weave" Pack!

Instagram - To be in the running for a pair of never to be sold Purple ZX Flux, share a visual story and tag #zxflux!

Facebook - Comment on the Adidas Originals ZX Flux films with your own stories and you could win both the ZX Flux "Weave" and "Photo Print" Packs!

Good luck!
