Topshop x Adidas Originals Collection

Topshop x Adidas Orginals Tech Super

Adidas is on one hell of a roll this year!

Their latest collaboration to hit Philippine shores was done in tandem with UK fashion giants Topshop. Adidas Originals has been creating stylish sportswear for years, and working with Topshop further solidifies their rep among the fashion conscious set.

The Adidas ZX Flux Could Be The Breakout Sneaker of 2014.

What a year the ZX Flux is having.

If you haven't heard, the Adidas ZX Flux is essentially a modern take on the classic ZX 8000 running shoe. Gone are most of the external bells and whistles, leaving a streamlined design that's become a huge hit in the sneaker community soon after it released early this year.

It's too bad they haven't been made available locally, but I do hope that changes soon. With all the colorways that have released so far, I have yet to see a bad one. What's amazing to me is how the shoe's upper lends itself perfectly to solid colors as well as wild photo prints. When something seamlessly translates between two or more vastly different aesthetics, you know its a product of good design. And I see all these people posting shots of the pairs they have. Whatever the design of the upper, the ZX Flux just looks fast even when someone's standing still.

Old school running heads will appreciate the familiar design cues the Flux lifts from the ZX 8000 like the split sole and heel cage, while the casual sneaker fan can get behind its clean, minimalist look. It's a little early in the year, but I think it's poised to pose a really serious challenge to Nike's hold on the throne of minimalist designed running shoes. Hopefully Adidas Philippines hears this out and drops some in our stores!

But for those who can't wait to see them on local store shelves, Adidas has launched ZX Stories, a global competition inviting fans to submit their own tales and experiences with the storied ZX line for a chance to win a pair of never to be sold Purple ZX Flux pair, as well as the new ZX Flux "Weave", "Base", and "Photo Print" packs!

And just like the number of stripes Adidas has on their logo, you've got three chances of winning!

Twitter - Tweet @adidasOriginals with your ZX story in 140 characters (it could be your first pair, your best memory, go wild with it!) and tag #zxflux for a chance to win the whole ZX Flux "Weave" Pack!

Instagram - To be in the running for a pair of never to be sold Purple ZX Flux, share a visual story and tag #zxflux!

Facebook - Comment on the Adidas Originals ZX Flux films with your own stories and you could win both the ZX Flux "Weave" and "Photo Print" Packs!

Good luck!

Why Pharrell Williams Partnering up With Adidas is Big News.

It was bound to happen "Sooner or Later".

I could probably come up with a better N.E.R.D reference, but now, it's finally official. Pharrell Williams and Adidas are locked in for a long term partnership, making the musician/producer the latest big named "Original" in what's been a string of strong signings for the Three Stripes.

Air Jordan 5Lab3 Releasing This Weekend via Electronic Lottery

All Reflective Everything.

The Jordan Elements Series takes iconic elements from noted Air Jordans and showcases them on an entirely different pair of Jays. We saw it last year with the 3Lab5, where the famed elephant print of the Air Jordan III made up the entire upper of the Air Jordan 5. Now, Jordan Brand is flipping the script with the 5Lab3. This time, they're literally shining a light on the AJ5's use of 3M reflective material by decking out the entire upper of an Air Jordan III with it.

Titan 22 is bringing out the Air Jordan 5Lab3 via electronic lottery. Like the previous two Elements releases, these will be in limited number. So if you want to pick up a pair of these bright beauties come Saturday, better get on the site and join in!

Why Kyrie Irving Deserves a Signature Shoe.

In the world of sports, having your own line of product is definitely up there with winning championships. And for athletes, there's only a few things cooler than having a signature shoe. Basketball is one of the sports that relies on personalities and signature lines to sell shoes. Looking at the basketball shoe landscape, Nike has its big three of stars in LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant. Jordan Brand keeps Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul laced in their own kicks. Adidas has Derrick Rose, and a host of other brands pump out shoes for ballers like Dwayne Wade, Rajon Rondo, and Kevin Love.

Every name up there is big, no doubt for their own accomplishments and contributions to the game. But there comes a time when you have to look to the future. And out of the all the budding stars in the NBA right now, there's no bigger name that deserves his own signature shoe other than Kyrie Irving.

Sole Academy Exclusive: Nike Air Max Premium "Air Max Day"

On March 26, 1987, Mark Parker and Tinker Hatfield changed the running shoe game by introducing the Nike Air Max 1. Twenty seven years later, Nike is looking to celebrate "Air Max Day" by dropping a special rendition of the shoe's original colorway.

With "3.26" tongue tabs to go with volt midsoles, these will certainly have a lot of running shoe collectors doing double takes on the street. Fortunately, Sole Academy is giving people a chance to join in on the celebration by releasing them in limited quantities on March 26. Check below for more looks and all the details on how you could get the chance to score yourself a pair!

Heat Hub PH Feature - Kris Mallari

As mentioned in a previous post, I go through local online sneaker groups pretty much everyday to check out what's new. Most of the time, people post what they're looking to sell, and not too many shots of people actually enjoying the kicks they buy. That was the motivation for me to start Heat Hub PH, to have a place where people actually show off what's on their feet.

Every now and then, I'll devote an entry to highlight some of the group's members, and try to find out what it is that got them into the shoe game. Kicking off this new segment of the blog is Kris Mallari and his Kobe 9 "Masterpiece".

Adidas Rod Laver Spring 2014

At the start of the year, it looked like retro tennis shoes were going to be big in 2014. And judging by how well both the Adidas Stan Smith and the Nike Air Tech Challenge II were received by the public, it looks like it's gonna be a good year for fans of tennis sneakers of yesteryear.

The Nike Kobe IX Elite is certainly a game changer in terms of basketball sneaker design. Aside from the return to a high-cut design, Kobe's latest signature shoe holds the distinction of being the first basketball sneaker to incorporate Nike's Flyknit technology. While it may be pretty cool to look at, a number of folks have been turned off by the shoe's height.

The Nike Magista has been Revealed

Nike's Flyknit technology is absolutely blowing up this year!

The material made its first foray into the world of basketball with the release of the Kobe IX Elite last month. And now, look for it to head to the pitch with the unveiling of the Nike Magista.

Although it doesn't hold the distinction of being the first football shoe to employ a knitted upper, it doesn't really matter. Flyknit's still the material that makes athletes, sneakerheads, and menswear bros alike collectively cream their pants. I haven't played a serious game of football in a couple of years, but just looking at the shoes makes me wish I still did.

Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star '70.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star is a shoe I hold in very high regard. Whether you like them high or low, the look is timeless. The silhouette is unmistakable, and the mass appeal is arguably second to none in the world of sneakers.

Having seen so many reinterpretations and designs of the All-Star over the years I really started paying attention to shoes, I've always found the simplest ones to be the most enduring. The canvas low tops either in black or navy will always have a spot in my rotation. And with the scorching summer heat setting in, I know I'm gonna be in Chucks way more than you'll be seeing me in Jordans.

I was checking out the selection at the Converse store in Glorietta when I chanced upon the Chuck Taylor All-Star '70 which was based on the design released during that decade. At first glance, there really isn't that much of a difference between them and the regular classic Chucks to justify the substantial increase in price for the former. However, closer inspection revealed some subtle yet pretty interesting details that really set the shoe off.
