It's been argued that the Philippines is a Kobe Bryant country. The Black Mamba always gets love from his Philippine fans whenever he makes a local appearance. And to give back, Nike Basketball is releasing a special colorway inspired by the "Pearl of The Orient".
Nicknamed the "Philippines" colorway, this premium version of the Kobe 9 EM sports a vibrant upper that could rival any of those that make up its Flyknit-built contemporaries. Predominantly laser crimson, accents of blue, purple, and yellow form a woven design inspired by the "banig", a local form of matting. The "24" detailing on the sides takes its design cues from the painted lines that can be seen on many local basketball courts.

The upper sits on a black midsole that integrates speckled TPU plates for support, and an icy outsole that shows the bands of local "tsinelas" or flip-flops. It's a subtle nod to just how much the Philippines loves basketball, where people balling in slippers isn't a rare sight.
Anybody interested in scoring a pair can do so tomorrow at Titan shops. For Titan Player's Club members, you can reserve a pair by e-mail until 8:00 tonight. Nike Forum in Greenhills will also be releasing the shoe tomorrow. SRP is P8495.
